Dig Day - breaking ground & laying our foundation

Thank you to everyone who came out and helped us on November 2, 2008 for our big dig day!

The weather was crisp, but the sun was out - as were approximately 20 volunteers who helped spread 7 dumptruck loads of soil across our new plot spaces. It was a great way to spend a sunday and we're so appreciative of everyone's help.

Thank you also to Bridgehead for a complementary supply of much-enjoyed fair trade coffee.

Welcome to the Sandy Hill Community Garden blog!

Garden Location

Ottawa’s newest community garden is getting underway in Dutchie’s Hole Park in Sandy Hill. We’re very excited about gardening in this beautiful location and invite anyone who is interested in learning more or getting involved to contact us at sandyhillcommunitygarden@gmail.com.

The garden kick-off event took place on Sunday, October 5, 2008. Thank you to everyone who came out to learn more about the garden and to request plots. If you are interested in putting your name on the waiting list for a plot, please don’t hesitate to contact us. All plots are currently taken at this point, but there is the possibility of recieving additional land which would give us an extra 7 gardening spaces.

More information will be posted soon regarding a community soil-spreading event as well as workshops that will take place over the winter months as we prepare for the official gardening season at Sandy Hill Community Garden to begin in spring 2009!
